Testing of gas appliances, gas fireplaces and fittings

The main task of the GWI test laboratory is the testing of gas appliances, gas fireplaces and fittings. This enables the prerequisites for certification by DVGW CERT GmbH (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V.) to be met (CE mark, DIN-DVGW mark, DVGW quality mark gas). In addition, the VDE mark and the EMC mark for gas appliances are issued for electrical and EMC testing in cooperation with the VDE Testing and Certification Institute.

The Gas- und Wärme-Institut Essen e.V. (GWI) is a non-profit and indepedent research institute that is actively involved in shaping the energy issues of the future. In light of the energy transition, the GWI has developed into a energy institute that is open to all technologies. We are involved in numerous projects at state, federal and EU level as part of its application-oriented research and development work, as well as direct cooperations with industry.

The main task of the GWI Test Laboratory is the auditing of gas appliances, gas fireplaces and fittings. This enables the prerequisites for a certification by the DVGW CERT GmbH (Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V.) (CE-label, DIN-DVGW-label, DVGW quality label gas). Furthermore the VDE label and the EMC label for gas appliances are granted for electrical and EMC testing in cooperation with the VDE Testing and Certification Institute.

The Test Laboratory has many years of vast experience and knowledge in the assessment of all devices and equipment for the use of gas, which must comply with the recognized rules of technology according to the legal regulations. 
We have additional expertise in the assessment of various building products and combustion systems. Depending on the situation, the tests are carried out at the customer‘s site or in the GWI Test Laboratory. 
 
The successful activity of the Test Laboratory requires that the testing work is supplemented by quality assurance measures. For this purpose, the GWI has established a quality management system that complies with DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025. It covers all work from order acceptance to documentation of the test results.

Accreditations based on DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025 

  • Accreditation as a test laboratory for tests in the areas of airborne sound emissions, mechanical-physical tests on components for gas / water installation and supply, elastomers and hoses / hose lines made of elastomer materials by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) 
  • Recognized body by DVGW CERT GmbH

Scope of services in the GWI Test Laboratory
The GWI Test Laboratory compiles type examinations according to current DVGW- and European regulations within the scope of the DAkkS-accreditation according to DIN EN ISO / IEC 17025. This includes: Audit of gas and oil appliances, appliance assemblies, cogeneration in connection with heat and cold generation Audit of pressure equipment as well as components and systems in gas / water installation and supply Audit of electrical safety of devices and assemblies according to low-voltage directive 2014 / 35 EU Acoustic tests of gas and oil appliances and water fittings Volume flow rate test / parameter identification
Functional and security audit of individual plants and heat generators for trade and industry Commissioning and decommissioning of pressure vessels Commissioning and decommissioning of gas mixing plants
Auditing of quality management systems (according to ISO 9001 and EU directives) of manufacturers Auditing of energy management systems according to ISO 50001 Monitoring of products and production
Create appraisals and protection goal-oriented safety analysis
Depending on their expertise, our employees participate in technical committees and working groups, where they also work on the further development of standards and regulations (e.g. DIN and DVGW).
